from New York with GE Smith and Christine Ohlman Featuring
Members of the Saturday Night Live Band
Take
a trip backstage to that cultural icon, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, television’s most
enduring late-night show, from the perspective of two long-running band members
and bandmates, guitarist extraordinaire G.E. Smith, who was, for nine years, SNL’s
musical director, and whose legendary string-bending prowess has graced recordings
and stage shows from Hall & Oates to Bob Dylan, and singer/historian Christine
Ohlman, the gritty, sweetly soulful, sequined-clad and mile-high platinum'd “Beehive
Queen,” who continues her 16-year tenure as the SNL Band’s guest vocalist and
sidewoman of choice to the blues world. Smith and Ohlman will swap stories, remember
outstanding (and historic) moments, map out a typical week in the life of the
show and take you inside the hour-to-hour workings of a show-day Saturday, from
the 11 a.m. band rehearsal until the show wraps at 1 a.m. Musical interludes included
as part of the presentation will spotlight the deep link between these two performers,
whose musical partnership dates back well before their tenure on SNL, as they
present easy blues and soul classics from the Saturday Night Live Band’s repertoire. | |
